We Ride Vietnam (and Laos)

Hello,

After returning from a motorcycle trip to India in 2022, I stayed in touch with many of the other riders from that trip.  I even setup a Facebook page just for those who had been on the trip and any friends they wanted to invite in to discuss future travels on motorbike trips we could do together again.  While getting everyone together again will never happen, it was hoped that a few of us could ride together again and explore new areas of the world.

We had tossed around a few areas of interest: Nepal, Pakistan, Mongolia, Mexico and Vietnam.  Over time, it appeared the Vietnam idea was going to be the winner.  Joe (from Canada) had already decided to take his bi-annual trip with his daughter to go hiking someplace in Vietnam, so he did the leg work to find a tour operator that could provide what we would need for riding in Vietnam.

We had settled on a big loop around northern Vietnam, but then Joe came up with the idea to add Laos to the trip as one of the operators could arrange it all. This included some custom changes to the route, and and the type of riding we would do, and adding a few days to the trip from their standard offering.

In then end a 16-day Vietnam/Laos trip from We Ride Vietnam was chosen.

Joe, Jerry, and myself from the India crew signed up.  A few others thought about it, but eventually no one else committed to the trip.

After putting deposits down 12-10 months out, and making all the other travel arrangements, most of us were ready to go.  I had decided that since I was in Southeast Asia, I would try to see some more of the region and planned to stay an extra 10 days somewhere.

I spent a few months going back and forth and trying to plan out some routes in East Malaysia, Cambodia and even Japan, but the expense of all the extra flights and such were escalating the cost too much.

In the end I chose to stay in Vietnam for the additional days after the ride ended.

What follows is the story of that trip!
